about steps to baptism.
It was during the age-old celebration of the Passover on the eve of His death that Jesus instituted a significant new fellowship meal that we observe to this day. It is an integral part of Christian worship. It causes us to remember our Lord's death and resurrection and to look for His glorious return in the future.Scripture teaches the Lord's Supper is a precious gift of God in which Christ gives us His true body and blood (in a miraculous way), together with the bread and wine, for the forgiveness of our sins and the strengthening of our faith.
Q: Do you acknowledge your sins and are you willing to turn from them with the aid and assistance of the Holy Spirit?
A: Yes, I acknowledge my sin and see the Lord's mercy. (1 John 1: 8-9)
Q: Do you believe that God, for Jesus' sake, has forgiven you all your sins?
A: Yes, Christ died for me and suffered the punishment that I deserved. (Isaiah 53: 4-6; Romans 6:21,23)
Q: Do you believe that the Lord offers Christians His body and blood in, with, and under the bread and wine for the strengthening of faith and the forgiveness of sins?
A: Yes, I believe the Scripture which teaches, "Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ? (1 Corinthians 10:16)
Q: Should Christians with weak faith receive the Sacrament?
A: The Sacrament is especially offered for those weak of faith. (Isaiah 42:3; John 6:37)
Q: What conditions should cause a person to refrain from receiving the Sacrament?
A: Disbelieve (Hebrew 11:6), unwillingness to forgive another (Matthew 6:14-15), hatred (1 John 4:19-21), or refusal to recognize the Body and the Blood of the Lord in the Sacrament (1 Corinthians 11: 28-29)
Marriage is God's provision for His earthly kingdom, how He governs and blesses all human societies, including people who do not know Him. Marriage is God starting a family. It has been established by God in His very creation of human beings (Gen. 2:18–25).Marriage and families belong to God's civil order. God calls men and women into their marriages, and He works through them to bless each other. They become "one flesh." God is the one who joins them together, as Jesus Himself explains: "What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate" (Matt. 19:5–6).
St. Matthew is pleased to join couples in marriage and extends their support of marriage upon those who are members and non-members. Since marriage is seen as a serious commitment, it should not be taken lightly. For this reason, Pastor meets with the couple and helps prepare them for this commitment. Please call or email the church office for more information and to schedule an appointment.
Reading the Bible on your on is encouraged. And, if you would like to take a guided journey, you can find information here. It is also a real benefit to study the Scripture with a group. The purpose of Bible study is to collectively grasp an understanding of God through His Word. These groups become small communities often sharing this personal journey to discovering the meaning of the passage.
One place you can engage in delving into Scripture with other members of your church family is at Education Hour on Sundays. Held at 9:15 a.m., this is an opportunity to participate in both topical and chapter group discussions led by the pastor. Another opportunity for study is to join a small group Bible Study. Contact the office for more information.
